The
Virtual FSR is a project of restoring the identity of Rijeka.
The Free State of Rijeka existed De jure from 1920 – 1924 as a
Corpus Separatum. It was internationally recognized and a member
of The League of Nations. Legally elected government was exiled
from Rijeka after the coup, and in 1924 the fascistic Italy,
with the help of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes,
invaded the city. After 80 sad years it has now come the time

The
Virtual FSR arose as a reaction to long-time denial of the identity of
Rijeka. Today the people of Rijeka have no say in the matter of their own
town. The city is economically destroyed and by an unseen decentralization
reduced to Zagreb's access to the sea. The establishing of new local
districts took away its natural background and made any further development
impossible. Our town has not been incorporated into the national coat of
arms although it never belonged to Istria, Slavonia or Dalmatia. The
struggle for reviving our old coat of arms has lasted more than a decade
while we still have not been given the right to have our historic flag.
